Sunshine for Breakfast
Sunshine for Breakfast
by Baylie Peplow
I am empty.
My fuse is short. I am dry, drained. Brittle, broken.
I am lonely yet seldom alone.
Where is the song?
The sweetness? The feeling of safety.
You see, I want a lot.
To know and trust,
to tumble forward with joyful abandon. I don’t expect it to be easy.
But I didn’t know it would be this hard.
Do you see me?
Can we hold each other and say thank you ?
And you are enough . And it’s all going to be ok .
Let us choose soft over stern.
Let us offer warm tenderness instead of fiery tempers.
Let us find ourselves and feed one another.
We try and fail, try and forgive.
We go to bed sad and scared. In the morning
Let us be sure to eat sunshine for breakfast.
