Down by the River
by Michelle de la Vega

Spring, down by the river.

Not two years ago
He fell in, was swallowed up
Poof

This spring
The frog song says
Not today

And they sing to
The restoration of all things
The restoration of all things

Dead coon skull

and then a dirty, precious goose egg promised new life.

Mementos & Remnants by Rob Cunningham

Turned [over]

I am alone.

The box from the attic sings a song called

All things will be restored.

I won’t be swayed by the theory that

Time is a twisted joke with a sick sense of humor.

Rather,

History is a sacred golden thread.

So don’t tell me

I am most importantly an individual.

I know it sounds extreme, but

Everything is nourished through the earth.

I am not so naive to think that

I have no need for roots.

[Over] turned

I have no need for roots.

I am not so naive to think that

Everything is nourished through the earth.

I know it sounds extreme, but

I am most importantly an individual.

So don’t tell me

History is a sacred golden thread.

Rather,

Time is a twisted joke with a sick sense of humor.

I won’t be swayed by the theory that

All things will be restored.

The box from the attic sings a song called

I am alone.
